Our club has over 100 members. The majority live in the Sarasota-Bradenton region; however, we have active Club members who reside up and down Florida’s west coast from the Tampa-St. Petersburg area in the north to the Punta Gorda-Port Charlotte area in the south. Since a significant number of members are snowbirds who spend only the winter season in Florida, most of our meetings are held during the months of November through March.
The mission of the Mount Holyoke Club of Southwest Florida is “to provide a social and educational means of connecting the alumnae of the College who spend all or part of the year in the southwest Florida region to each other and to the College and to publicize Mount Holyoke College in the area to the extent possible.”
Club events are announced in our newsletters, several of which can be found in the Newsletters & Events section of our website. Events include stimulating speaker luncheons, occasional joint meetings with other local alumni/alumnae clubs, and special occasion gatherings like our January 2013 Mount Holyoke 175th Birthday Celebration and Dali Museum tour in 2015. Reservation information and directions to each venue are included in the newsletter.
Our Club is involved in assisting with Admissions recruiting. Each winter we participate with 13 other colleges and universities in the annual Ivy League College Fair providing information about Mount Holyoke to the area’s top high school sophomores and juniors. In addition, our Club traditionally contributes to the Mount Holyoke Alumnae Scholar Fund. Finally, to stay connected with local students currently attending Mount Holyoke, we send cards, emails and an exam care package. Volunteers are always needed to help with these activities.
Whether you are a seasonal snowbird, have recently relocated to southwest Florida, or are planning a vacation in our area, we hope you will contact us. As alumnae, Mount Holyoke ties bind us all. Let’s keep the laurel chain strong. Our Club looks forward to welcoming you.
