MHCFund Fact
Did you know there are 11 different ways you can designate your gift through The Mount Holyoke Fund? This way you can support what really matters to you. Did you receive a scholarship, or know someone who wouldn’t have been able to attend MHC without one? You can make your gift go towards Student Scholarship Aid to pay it forward. Did you have an incredible internship at MHC? You can help provide internship funding for current students by choosing the Lynk designation. What about those breathtaking walks around the lakes, or the wonderful talks in the Adirondack chairs? You can choose Campus Preservation and Beautification to help keep MHC the beautiful MoHome we know and love. Learn more about The Mount Holyoke Fund and its different designations.
Amanda LeinbergerSuper Sphinx Profile
We want to highlight our awesome classmates and the exciting things you all are doing. First up, our intrepid class president, Amanda Leinberger:

Hi everyone! I’m excited to be the first ’07 profiled in our new monthly newsletter. I hope you find this section entertaining and illuminating— and if you have any classmates (or yourself) that you’d like to see here, pass their names along! If you didn’t know, I love Mount Holyoke…so much so that I’m the current 2007 class president, and I’m on the Board of the Directors of the Alumnae Association. Phew. Outside of that, I work as the reference archivist for the United Nations, meaning that I assist people in their research, everything from PhD thesis to documentaries to war crimes investigations. I love helping people connect with history, and archives are a great way to do that. In my spare time, I go for long rambling walks around Brooklyn, swim, play rugby, goof around in a letterpress studio, and read a whole lot. I’ve got to plug a book I just read—Octavia’s Brood. It’s short science fiction stories by activists and people of color and the authors really re-imagine the future in radical ways. Highly recommended for your daily dose of inspiration.

MHCVolunteer Opportunities
We have already heard from some classmates who are interested in doing more for our class and MHC, and we are so excited! Thanks to everyone who reached out to learn more about ways you can help our class and our alma mater. There is still time for those of you who are still interested in learning more.
We would love more class agents to help connect people back to the College and:

• raise funds for our alma mater
• host class get togethers/regional events
• write thank you notes or birthday cards to classmates
• share MHC updates with your friends on social media (creative interpretation  welcome! could you snap chat that?) and just connect with classmates

Sphinx Report: January 2016

January 2016

Hello all, and welcome to a brand new year! It is hard to believe it is already 2016, which means we are just 17 months away from our 10th reunion! With the start of the new year, we wanted to try a new way to be in touch with all the awesome ’07s out there. This monthly newsletter will be a way for us to share exciting news from the College, updates from our classmates, our progress towards our fundraising goals, etc. Please check it out and send us any thoughts or comments you might have.
Lynn PasquerellaCollege News
On January 4, you should have received emails from President Lynn Pasquerella and Barbara Baumann, chair of the Board of Trustees, announcing that Lynn will be stepping down to assume the presidency of the Association of American Colleges & Universities (AAC&U) on July 1, 2016. The Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint Sonya Stephens, vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty, as acting president of the College effective July 1, 2016 for the next three years. If you have any questions or comments, you can contact Beckie Markarian.
The Mount Holyoke FundMount Holyoke Fund Update
Last year was a great year for 2007—we exceeded our goals for both annual participation and overall dollars, raising $7,446 from 18% of our class. This year we’re hoping to do it again! Our goal for June 30: $7,500 from 20% of our class. We’re well on our way—22 Super Sphinxes have stepped up already for a current total of $2,000 in gifts. Well done, Sphinxes!

Our big focus this year is on participation—we want to show what an incredible class 2007 really is, as well as help increase MHC’s overall participation. Alumnae participation, especially with younger classes, is really important for MHC—it is a factor in college rankings (US News & World Reports), corporations and foundations use participation as part of their criteria in awarding grants, and outside constituents (peer institutions, parents, prospective students, trustees) use it to assess the overall state of the College. The higher the participation rate, the better, and gifts of any size make a huge difference!

A great way to support MHC (and our class) is to make a gift during FebruMary, where the focus is on donors, not dollars. The class with the most donors (making gifts of any size) during their 24-hour challenge will receive an extra $1,837 towards their fundraising total! Mark your calendars—our day is Thursday, February 11, and we will be competing against the classes of 2000–2009. Let’s show them what we can do!

MHCFund Fact
New Year’s Day is the start of a brand new year for everyone right? Well, not entirely. While it marks the start of a new calendar year, lots of organizations operate under a different fiscal year, including good old MHC. MHC’s fiscal year actually runs July 1-June 30. What does this mean for you? It might mean that while you made gifts in two different calendar years, they both fall within the same fiscal year for MHC, or vice versa. If you have a question about your giving history, or would like some ideas for ways to make giving to our alma mater easier (such as through monthly debits), please feel free to reach out to your HCAs or Beckie Markarian.
ReunionReunion Rundown
Make sure to check out future newsletters for news about our upcoming reunion! It is still a bit early, but if you have ideas for Reunion or want to help plan it, please be in touch with our Reunion Chairs: Natalie Cheng and Maggie Behringer.
