FebruMary 2016

In case you missed the updates on Facebook (where we are posting frequently — click here for the link), we  had 59 gifts count in the FebruMary Challenge (as well as a few after the deadline), so we finished in a tie for second with the Class of 1974. Well done, Team 1978!

Thanks to all our classmates who participated in this challenge.

FebruMary is coming….

Here’s a chance to give back to MHC and have some fun as well.

Do you know about FebruMary?  It’s Mount Holyoke’s way to celebrate Mary Lyon’s birthday and to do some FUNdraising for the Mount Holyoke Fund at the same time.

MaryLyonDuring February, classes from 1970 to 2015 will join in a special FUNdraising challenge campaign where they will have a specific 24-hour period in which to raise as many new gifts from classmates as possible. The class with the most new donors in its decade will get $1837 to add to its class fundraising total at the end of the year – plus bragging rights as the most loyal of FebruMary supporters.

Sunday, February 8 (we’re the Class of 1978) is our day to raise new gifts from as many donors as we possibly can.  Show some Pegasus spirit!  Support Mount Holyoke by making a Mount Holyoke Fund gift on February 8 and help 1978 win the 2015 FebruMary challenge!

Like all good challenges, this one has rules:

1.  In order to count toward our challenge total, your FebruMary gift must be made on February 8 – not before and not after.

2Only on-line gifts made on February 8 and gifts received via the student phonathon held from 6-9pm on February 8 will count toward the challenge.  Pledges DO NOT count.  Pledge payments DO NOT count.

3.  Any NEW GIFT made during our 24-hour period will count, so if you have already given, you can make a second (or third or fourth, you get the picture) gift to help our class challenge effort.

4.  Remember, this is a PARTICIPATION challenge, so every gift is equally important!

The Year of Wendy Wasserstein ’71: An Uncommon Life

Wendy Wasserstein graduated just 3 years before our arrival on campus for our Freshman year, so I would consider us to be the same generation.  Mount Holyoke is honoring Wendy during this academic year.

The press release says, “The Year of Wendy Wasserstein will continue through the 2012 commencement with a series of symposia, workshops, performances, and staged readings featuring a number of theatre luminaries as participants. The public is invited to join this yearlong discussion of Wasserstein’s contributions to American theatre and her enduring connection to the College.”

Our very own Martha Patterson (a Theatre Arts major) is also a playwright, though perhaps not yet as famous as Wendy.  Check out her blog, Plays & Essays! Martha has written over 50 plays and has been published in four anthologies by the International Centre for Women Playwrights as well as in collections from JAC Publishing. Her work has been produced Off-Off-Broadway and in Washington, Michigan, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Florida. She has also been produced overseas in Korea and Australia. Shoestring Radio Theatre in San Francisco produced a half-hour mystery of hers in 2010. She earned her M.A. from Emerson College in Theatre.

Reunion Is Coming!

MHC78_2008_ReunionOur 35th Reunion will be upon us before we know it… less than 2 years till early June 2013!  Class officers will gather on the Mount Holyoke campus in early November 2011 to attend a Reunion Planning Workshop.

Many of us found each other as Facebook friends after our 30th Reunion, and have enjoyed the updates that pop up there from classmates.
